Moving From Stremio to Nuvio Without Losing Your Continue Watching
Nuvio is a media app that speaks the Stremio addon protocol. Point it at the same addon URLs you use in Stremio and you get the same catalogs, the same metadata, and the same playback addons, in a different app with its own take on the home screen, profiles, and sync. A lot of people are trying it right now. Most of them hit the same wall within ten minutes: the addons came across fine, but Continue Watching is empty and every episode you have ever finished shows as unwatched.
This post covers what moves on its own, what does not, and the two honest ways to bring your history with you. One of them is free and has nothing to do with us.
What carries over, and what stays behind
Stremio addons are just URLs. Each one is a manifest.json link, and any settings you chose when installing it (keys, filters, languages) live inside that link. Paste the same link into Nuvio under Addons and you get the same addon, configured the same way. That part of the move takes a few minutes.
Your viewing state is a different story. In Stremio it lives in your Stremio account's library: every title you started, where you stopped, which episodes you finished. Nuvio does not read that library. It keeps its own record per profile, either in your Nuvio account or at a tracker you connect inside Nuvio (Trakt, Simkl, or MDBList). Nothing syncs the two directly.
| Moves on its own? | |
|---|---|
| Your addons and their settings | Yes, paste the same install URLs |
| Continue Watching (titles, current episode, resume point) | No |
| Watched movies and watched episodes | No |
| History already in Trakt or Simkl | Yes, if you connect the same tracker in Nuvio |
Option one: you already use Trakt or Simkl
If Stremio has been scrobbling to Trakt or Simkl, your history is not really in Stremio. It is at the tracker, and the tracker does not care which app asks for it. Connect the same tracker inside Nuvio and your watched marks and progress show up there.
This is the cleanest path when it applies, and you need nothing else for it. The catch is that plenty of people do not have a tracker anymore. Trakt's free plan started limiting how many apps can connect in 2026, and a lot of Stremio users gave up their slot or stopped scrobbling altogether. If that is you, Stremio's own library is the only complete record of what you watched.
One detail worth knowing before you choose: when a tracker is connected inside Nuvio, Nuvio reads history from the tracker and not from your Nuvio account. Whatever you copy into the account sits underneath and stays hidden while that tracker is connected. So pick one source and stick with it.
Option two: copy it once from Stremio
This is the gap the "Move to Nuvio" copy in AI Streams Pro fills. It reads your Stremio library once and writes it into the Nuvio profile you choose:
- Continue Watching. Every in-progress title, with the episode you are on and the point where you stopped. Series where Stremio already queued up the next episode come across too.
- Watched movies. Everything Stremio counts as watched, including titles you marked by hand.
- Watched episodes. Stremio keeps a compact per-series record of which episodes you finished. The copy decodes it against the same episode list Stremio used to write it, so a show where you watched seasons one and two but skipped season three arrives in Nuvio exactly like that.
On a real library this came out at 68 titles in progress, 235 watched movies, and 780 watched episodes, in one press of a button.
How to run it
- Link your Stremio account. On your account page, press Update keys and link Stremio. You sign in once; your password is exchanged for a session key and never stored. Accounts created with Facebook can paste their Stremio auth key instead.
- Link your Nuvio account. In the same place, press Link Nuvio account. You get a short code; approve it on nuvio.tv while signed in to Nuvio. Your Nuvio password never reaches us. Then pick the Nuvio profile the history should land in.
- Press "Copy Continue Watching and watch history to Nuvio". On a big library it can take up to a minute, and it tells you how much it copied.
- Close Nuvio fully and open it again. Continue Watching and your watched marks are there.
What to expect
- It is a copy, not a sync. It runs when you press the button and never in the background. After the move, Nuvio records what you watch on its own. That is deliberate: two apps writing the same history on a schedule would fight each other.
- Running it again is safe. It updates the same titles instead of adding duplicates, so if you kept watching in Stremio for a week after the first copy, press it again.
- Nuvio applies its own rules. Nuvio marks anything past 90 percent as watched, so a film you stopped during the credits shows up as finished rather than in progress.
- Some titles cannot come across. The copy covers titles with IMDb IDs, which is nearly everything from mainstream catalogs. Titles from addons that use their own IDs (some anime catalogs, for example) are left out. If a series changed so much since you watched it that Stremio's record no longer lines up with its episode list, that series' watched episodes are skipped and the result says how many.
- Your saved list does not move. Titles you added to your Stremio library but never started are not part of Continue Watching or watch history, so they stay behind.
Setting up AI Streams in Nuvio
AI Streams is a discovery addon: AI-ranked recommendation rows, natural-language search, mood catalogs, and rich title pages. It never plays anything itself, so it sits alongside whatever playback addons you already use, in Stremio or in Nuvio.
To install it in Nuvio, paste your AI Streams install URL under Addons, the same URL you use in Stremio. Then move AI Streams to the top of your addon list. Nuvio asks only the first addon in the list for title details. If another addon sits above it, Nuvio never opens AI Streams' title pages, and the addon cannot learn from what you open.
Once it is installed and on top:
- Every catalog becomes a home row. AI Picks, Because You Watched, the mood rows, and the rest show up on Nuvio's home screen, and Nuvio lets you reorder, rename, or hide each one.
- The home hero gets real backdrops. Nuvio's big header image uses a wide backdrop when the addon provides one, and AI Streams provides one for every title it can, instead of a stretched portrait poster.
- Title pages carry age ratings, which Nuvio shows as a badge, plus per-season posters for series.
- Search works from Nuvio's search bar, including descriptions like "a heist movie that is mostly talking". The semantic search guide covers how that works.
- The Configure button in Nuvio takes you back to your AI Streams settings.
Let Nuvio feed your recommendations
Once you watch in Nuvio, that history can feed AI Streams the same way your Stremio library or Trakt does. Link your Nuvio account (on the free tier through the setup page, on Pro through your account page) and AI Streams reads the profile's watched and saved titles into your taste profile, refreshing up to twice a day. Nothing is written to Nuvio by this; the only write is the one-time copy above, and only when you press it.
The same tracker rule applies here: Nuvio keeps history in your Nuvio account only while no tracker is connected inside Nuvio. If you watch in Nuvio with Trakt connected, your history lives at Trakt, so connect Trakt to AI Streams instead. The link page tells you when a linked Nuvio account has nothing in it yet.
Unlinking from either page signs that Nuvio session out.
The bottom line
Moving your addons to Nuvio is a copy-paste job. Moving your viewing history depends on where it lives. If it is at Trakt or Simkl, connect the same tracker in Nuvio and you are done. If it only ever lived in Stremio, AI Streams Pro copies your Continue Watching and watch history into Nuvio in one press, and you can run it again any time before you switch for good.
Either way, AI Streams works in both apps from the same install URL: free with your own AI key, or $4/mo on Pro, which also includes the copy into Nuvio.
